On a managed DishNet Starlink plan — your contract is with DishNet, and DishNet registers and manages the Starlink account on your behalf — we need the address where the dish is installed so we can register it with Starlink. Starlink controls activation; we tell you as soon as Starlink confirms it. Registering Starlink in your own name instead? Starlink controls registration approval, KYC verification and activation. No approval or activation is promised; message us and we can help you understand the steps. On a managed plan, send your location on WhatsApp — here are the three ways to do it, with the easiest first.
When you collected your Starlink kit, we sent you a WhatsApp message from +256 705 993 348. It looks like the screen on the right.
The message tells you three things:
1. Your kit number (e.g. KIT-005122)
2. The basic setup steps for the dish
3. How to send us the installation location
If you can't find this message, search WhatsApp for +256 705 993 348 or "DishNet". If you never got it, message us — the system might have your phone number wrong.
Open the chat with DishNet. At the bottom of the screen, find the paperclip icon 📎 (between the text field and the microphone).
Tap it. A grid of attachment options pops up: Camera, Gallery, Audio, Document, Location 📍, Contact, Poll.
Tap Location (the green icon).
WhatsApp shows a small map with a pin where you are. There are two options:
Send your current location — sends a single GPS pin. Use this one.
Share live location — keeps updating for 15 min / 1 hr / 8 hrs. Don't use this; we only need a single point.
Tap Send your current location. WhatsApp may ask permission to use your phone's location — allow it.
The location pin gets sent to our team within a couple of seconds.
We reply with a confirmation message: "Got your location! ✅" with the area name (e.g. Kampala, Ntinda) and the kit number.
Once you see this message, our team submits the service address to Starlink for your managed plan. Starlink controls activation and how long it takes.
While you wait:
• Make sure the dish is powered on
• Watch for the dish's status light to turn solid white (means it's connected)
• Have your phone ready to connect to the Wi-Fi called STARLINK
You'll get a message from us once Starlink confirms the service is active.
Reply to the WhatsApp chat with the words CALL ME — our team will phone you to check what's happening. It may be a sky-view problem (something is blocking the dish's view of the sky) or a power issue.
Message us at +256 705 993 348 with your name, phone number, and kit number. We'll resend it. WhatsApp support is available seven days a week.
It depends on the Starlink plan and Starlink's terms: some plans are tied to the registered service address, others allow use elsewhere with coverage. On a managed DishNet plan, message us and we will ask Starlink to change the service address on your behalf; Starlink decides whether and when the change applies. If the account is in your own name, you change it in your own Starlink account.
Send a regular text message to +256 705 993 348 with your area name and the closest landmark (e.g. "Kira, behind the trading centre"). Our team uses it to find the address and may call you to confirm details before we register it with Starlink.
We use your location to register the service address with Starlink for your managed plan, and we keep it with your account records, as set out in our Privacy Policy. We don't track you and we don't store live location updates. WhatsApp's "Share current location" sends a single timestamped pin, not a live stream.
